Dumfries High School approval clears the way for construction to start
September 22 2023
Dumfries and Galloway Council are to break ground on a new £48m Dumfries High School after obtaining planning consent.
Working in partnership with Hub South West Scotland the local authority is working towards a summer 2025 completion date for the 900-pupil campus, including a 3G pitch with a viewing terrace, science and wellbeing gardens and sports facilities.
Rising on the site of the current school at Marchmont Avenue construction will get underway before the year is out.
Councillor Richard Brodie commented: “This is a significant milestone with regards to the new school project at Dumfries High School. As a council, we are committed to providing the very best learning opportunities we can provide for our young people, and being in a state-of-the-art facility is very much part of that commitment and vision. Building work is due to commence before the end of the calendar year and I look forward to receiving updates on the progress of the project via the education and learning committee.”
The project team includes Morgan Sindall Construction, Ryder Architecture, Turner & Townsend and Woolgar Hunter.

At least it shows a bit of ambition and takes our weather into account with its attempt at providing cover.
But a build budget of £48mill -- all it does is attract more consultants.
Not good.
