Plans break for Dennistoun Meat Market phase 2

Mast Architects has opened a consultation for a second phase of housing at a former meat market in Dennistoun for delivery by 2025.

A collaboration between Home Group and CCG the Duke Street development will deliver a further 270 flats on top of the 250 already under construction, connected by a mix of private and semi-private amenity spaces.

Pedestrian routes will also connect to a planned linear park to the south on the site of the original Meat market sheds.

In a consultation statement, Mast wrote: "The proposed development places an emphasis on high-quality design, respecting the existing urban fabric of Dennistoun’s tenemental grid. This will introduce much needed new energy-efficient housing to the area whilst also revitalising an area of derelict brownfield land."

Incorporating a listed gatehouse (to be turned into a 'transportation hub' at a later date) and sandstone wall to the western boundary, the plans cover 1.69 hectares of brownfield land.

The design team includes G3 Consulting Engineers and MBLA.

Meanwhilst the centerpiece to the North side of Duke St sits empty for another year pending funding for structural wall ties to be fitted. A vast oversized lump of a development out of scale & touch with it's setting. Oh yes, we're also getting a statue of Mr Coia, a famous Dennistoun persona but of Mr Alexander Dennistoun himself? I want a statue at my close of me.

More dross from the CCG and Mast Wagon. Glasgows residential design is the gutter.

#3 you can guess that from a consultation?
Truth is they've developed many brownfield sites and none remain unsold or empty.
No I don't work there - but think they've done some good schemes on difficult sites.

Let's hope that Mast's recent effort on Abercromby St is not a portent for what is to come here. A scheme that has all the joy of a borstal and all the poise of an electricity sub-station housing. They really do churn this stuff out.

Over-wrought, oppressive, mis-scaled, dreich.
