Planned Stranraer homes push town boundaries

Mast Architects have opened a consultation for 70 new homes at Springbank Road on the north-western edge of Stranraer.

The mix of semi-detached and terraced homes is to be served by shared surface roads between 6 and 4.5m in width, opening up farmland for development.

In a consultation statement, Mast wrote: "The mix of houses, semi-detached and terraces, single and two storeys, and differing parking arrangements, driveways and on-street parking, provide diversity in the proposed streetscape. Houses within key locations across the development, at corners, junctions and squares, will have feature elevations to add to the variety in the streetscape.

"Each house will have a semi-private front garden and private rear garden designed in accordance with Dumfries and Galloway planning policy providing amenity space to the residents. The communal landscape spaces throughout the development will be designed to enhance the local biodiversity providing natural habitat for local wildlife."

Led by Wheatley Homes the phased approach will retain a high gradient slope as undeveloped land with a biodiversity corridor established for the eastern perimeter to designs by landscape architect Mike Hyatt.

A full planning application is expected in December.
