Second wave of Glasgow Harbour homes near completion

The latest addition to Glasgow Harbour has topped out with Dandara planting a ceremonial tree to mark exterior completion.

When complete next summer Granary Quay will provide 342 build-to-rent apartments in addition to communal facilities such as a gym, a lounge, co-working facilities and a house kitchen.

Designed by Axis Mason the L-plan block completes the second phase of development at Glasgow Harbour and frames a semi-private landscaped courtyard overlooking the River Clyde.

Jim Davies, CEO, of Dandara Living said: “Glasgow City Council’s collaborative approach to creating River Rooms by unlocking land and generating new liveable spaces has taken huge steps forward.

“Build to rent is still a relatively new concept in Scotland which is hugely popular in other regions and appealing to young professionals who are looking for high-spec homes in developments that are professionally managed and provide a sense of community rather than living in isolation.”

Dandara is also delivering nearly 1,000 flats for private and student rent at nearby Anderston Quay.

Hard to believe we're still planning, designing and building such oppressive places. The disdain for the ground floor, and that deck access just makes my heart sink

That's pretty bleak. Here's hoping it looks better from another angle.

Could quite happily pass as an inner-city prison or young offenders institute (see also Bell Street, Glasgow - https://www.urbanrealm.com/news/5880/Flats_plan_to_bring_life_to_Glasgow%E2%80%99s_east_end.html).

Lowest common denominator and those in charge of design governance at the City Council should be thoroughly ashamed.

On the other hand - it will be easy to get a Pumkin Spiced Latte and a Whopper - just don't get run over on Castlebank Street...

Something slimmer/more elegant/more height with some interesting design? Any chance of that GCC instead of these endless groundscrapers?

UR I'm wondering what ever happened to the Carbuncle Awards. Can I get an early nomination in?

You'd have thought we had got past monstrosities like this after Hutchison Town was demolished.

What is actually wrong with Glasgow City Planners? This is identical to the 60s blocks that are facing demolition/have been demolished because they are deemed out of date, poorly designed, catalysts for social exclusion, isolation and poverty. So the solution is to build the same junk in their place? Honestly depressing.

That is phenomenally grim. What a sad state of affairs that we get shut truly awful architecture of this scale in this location. Another nail in the coffin for Glasgow

Just add trampolines and we're good. Dem Master are ready to step in in any given moment.

Everyone on this forum is being super negative and its pretty laughable to be honest. I think you all need to find a new hobby. I live overlooking this new development and it looks nice.

What a depressing, over-developed mass of construction. Grim, but fitting for Glasgow which has one of the most dreary waterfronts in Europe. Look opposite and learn from the Barclays scheme which combines a properly landscaped public realm and quality architectural. Glasgow planners and architects please travel outside Scotland and get inspired.
