Housing association breaks ground on Helensburgh homes

Work has begun to deliver new social housing in the Jeanie Deans district of Helensburgh at East King Street.

Hitting the street with a 16-space parking court the scheme comprises 12 apartments for social rent with a small communal garden pushed to the far northern site boundary.

Accessed from a new junction the building is to be largely clad in brick, with a darker hue used for wayfinding at the close entrance.

A setback cedral-clad upper floor will further help to break up apparent massing. In their design statement, Mast Architects wrote: "Cedral cladding has been located along the length of the top floor of the eastern ‘wing’ of the building to help break up the massing and provide a visual cue where the building steps down to two storeys."

The homes are being delivered in partnership between the JR Group and Dunbritton Housing Association.

It looks like it's giving a Horsa Hut a piggy-back.

Were they asked to add another three flats half an hour before the Planning submission?
