Supermarket-led Crooksbridge build to expand Stirling retail park

The Crookbridge area of Stirling is to receive an Asda-led mixed retail and commercial development.

Yeoman McAllister Architects, acting on behalf of Ramoyle, propose to erect a supermarket, car showroom, petrol station and a pedestrian access bridge to Springkerse Retail Park. Accessed from Kerse Road the site plan incorporates a dedicated cycle route as well as an 'ecology corridor' along the route of the Town Burn.

In a proposal statement, the architects wrote: "The architectural solution uses a bold sculptural approach at the main entrances to the buildings externally, clearly highlighting the entrance for pedestrians. This includes a simple palette of materials of masonry, metal cladding and glass. The use of large format glazing around the external leaf softens the overall visual weight, adding interest to key areas of the facades.

"This simple approach also allows the material, texture and colour to be appreciated and add a richness to the building which follows a recognised approach to architecture by utilising a standard palette of materials without necessarily using several materials on a building."

The materials palette includes insulated cladding panels, curtain wall glazing for the retail sections and ashlar stone for a separate office building - including a dry stacked natural stone cylindrical stairwell.

Stirling ensnared by supermarkets! you’d have thought that at the very least the car parking areas would be roofed with solar panels.

That second image is gobsmacking. I thought the done thing, even if you're slathering parking all over the place, is to at least make it *look* like there's less road?

They really are flogging the dying horse that is this site. People movement secondary - as shown by the bog-standard junction arrangements and lack of coherent connectivity. Humongous great big bell-mouths everywhere that will take a decade to dodge across as the aforementioned w@nkpanzers are driven towards you at 30mph. Tons and tons of parking like there's no climate emergency. It's like they've copy/pasted something from the 1980's.
