Warren D'Souza from the University of Bath has beaten off over 20 hopefuls to be declared the winner of 3DReid's 2023 Student Prize.
One of five shortlisted Part II students competing for the £5k top prize D'Souza impressed the judging panel with the quality and scope of his presentation, a cultural project promoting traditional textile craft in the Indian city of Udaipur. Billed as a comprehensive, rational and resolved response the well-grounded entry shone through the quality of its drawings, line work and consideration of materials.
Graham Hickson Smith, 3DReid's managing director, said: “You can see this getting built and used. Warren’s portfolios supporting his presentation would make any commercial practice proud. A stunning piece of work”.
Each anonymous entrant was nominated by selected tutors from UK architecture schools, a process which ended with four females in the final five. This included second-placed Eloise Collier of Oxford Brookes who analysed how social media is shaping the built environment.
Rounding out the top five were Eleanor Harding of the London School of Architecture with Nobody Wants to Live in a Care Home; Julia Lauri De Funes of Leicester School of Architecture, De Montford University with A Ballet of Land, Sea, and Life and Beatrice Ryan of the University of Dundee for Growing Beyond Trauma.
Finalists from left to right are Eloise Collier, Beatrice Ryan, Warren D’Souza and Julia Lauri De Funes.
