Drumchapel action plan to build local identity
June 27 2023
Glasgow City Council has opened a consultation concerning the future development of Drumchapel, governing the development of housing, facilities, shops, transport and public spaces.
Feedback will guide a Local Development Framework for the area to take account of the specific challenges and opportunities presented by the far northwestern corner of the city. Barriers to regeneration include depopulation, lingering issues of perception and large areas of vacant and derelict land.
An action programme to address these issues will focus on improving the town centre and introducing active travel routes, including a walking route along the Antonine Wall World Heritage Site.
Councillor Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “The Drumchapel Local Development Framework will give a long-term vision for the area, one that is best created with the input of local people and organisations. So we would ask everyone living, working, or with a stake in the area to take part in this consultation, which will guide how Drumchapel develops in future years and decades."
Drumchapel is one of three areas in the city singled out for additional planning intervention, alongside Greater Pollok and South Central.
The survey runs until 5 September with a delivery timescale set to 2030 and beyond.
