Capability Scotland embraces co-design at its flagship care facility
June 22 2023
Capability Scotland has shared its vision for a purpose-built care centre at Bertha Park in Perth, designed by Anderson Bell + Christie.
Our Inclusive Community Project (OICP) will replace the care provider's current facility at Upper Springland, four miles away, to provide more integrated and inclusive care within a neighbourhood environment. The 60-studio facility includes a respite service complemented by interlinked communal and green spaces.
Four transitional flats are also provided for residents who can live independently in preparation for moving onto assisted living accommodation. Central to the plan is the provision of a community hub providing daycare services to ensure the facility plays a full role in village life.
Caroline Dearden, director at Anderson Bell + Christie, said: “Co-production has been embedded in our work from the beginning and pivotal in Capability Scotland’s approach to this project.
“Earlier this year, we started the concept designs and we are proud of what we have created so far, designing a universally accessible home, with exemplar care facilities and destinations that nurture the important relationships between residents and staff. The coproduction has meant it is completely tailored to people of all different age groups and needs that Capability Scotland support and their dedicated staff.
“This project has a unique opportunity to challenge and help break down barriers in how care provision is approached and to develop a national residential resource to serve Scotland and beyond.”
Detailed designs are still being finalised ahead of a masterplan launch on 29 June.
