Ribbon of colour to tie Bishopbriggs town centre together
June 13 2023
Preferred plans for a central civic space to re-energise Bishopbriggs town centre have been shared by East Dunbartonshire Council following consultations.
Delivered as part of a £38.44m City Deal funding package, which includes improvements to the Westerhill area and A803, the work will be delivered in phases subject to sourcing additional funding.
Phase one includes an enhanced public realm at the Triangle Shopping Centre, opposite St Matthew's Church, to encourage social interaction and play.
In a statement, the authority wrote: "The key focus of the new civic space is that it serves as the heart of the town centre and recaptures that village feel.
"The civic space will be enhanced by a unique artwork feature which threads its way throughout the site – from the canopy over the performance area and around the open space – integrating with the seating and walls adjacent to the paving/planting. This is proposed to be a striking bold colour to lift the appearance of the space on even the drabbest of Scottish winter days."
Scheduled to complete by the end of 2026 the space will be suitable for hosting gatherings and events with a stage, integrated seating and improved lighting facilitating use for performances, markets and mass events.
