Renfrewshire Council forge ahead with a new Paisley Grammar campus
June 2 2023
Renfrewshire Council has provided the first glimpse of an all-new Paisley Grammar School, a flagship learning campus set to open in the summer of 2026.
The announcement coincides with a planning application by Ryder Architecture which promises a variety of outdoor facilities that are not possible within the constraints of the current school.
Other additions made possible by a new campus include a theatre, dance studio and makers space. Separate pupil and public areas are also accommodated in the plan, including meeting rooms and flexible learning spaces for adult learners.
Chris Malcolm, partner at Ryder, said: "The collaboration and engagement with the project team and stakeholders has been excellent from the start, and has resulted in a design which clearly expresses the collective educational vision for the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus. The new learning spaces that it will create are going to be sustainable, exciting and inspirational."
Earmarked for vacant land off Renfrew Road, neighbouring the West College Scotland campus, the school will complement a separate project to create a new active travel route linking the town to the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) at Glasgow Airport.
Notably, the school will stand alongside the vacant Chivas Brothers headquarters, which despite appearances was built in 1962-64 in the manner of a neoclassical country house. Its exterior was recently C-listed by Historic Environment Scotland and the property is on the market.
Construction is expected to get underway by next spring.
