Landscape works show a new side to King's Campus quadrangle
May 25 2023
Scotland's Rural College has brought forward plans to renovate its King's Campus quadrangle as a welcoming space for students, staff and visitors.
Oobe landscape architects have undertaken detailed design work to support campus development through the installation of a ramped terrace, reusing existing materials and retaining trees where possible. Bespoke furniture, lighting and paving will activate the space, designed to foster a sense of arrival with clear routes connecting to perimeter buildings.
Oobe wrote: "A key factor in the renovation of the quadrangle is the focus on providing usable outdoor space which takes advantage of the aspect and shelter provided by the built form Building uses spilling out will activate the space and create an animated and vibrant external environment for the college.
"The proposals make use of the level changes, building in terraced seating units to provide seating opportunities for gatherings/ lessons. Areas of planting will be designated as an educational resource for students to plant up and work with throughout the term."
New additions include a cafe and central social space with a pop-up bar and space has also been found to accommodate an outdoor lecture area.
