Future looking up for historic Edinburgh buildings

3DReid Architects and Buro Happold have been appointed by Chris Stewart Group (CSG) to revitalise a disparate run of historic buildings at Queensferry Street in Edinburgh's West End.

Detailed plans have been filed with the City of Edinburgh Council to restore and enhance the buildings as a mixed-use hospitality space in a joint venture with Souter Investments.

CSG has developed a reputation for painstakingly assembling ownership of underperforming city centre sites to realise their full potential, spending 18 months acquiring the site.

Chris Stewart, CEO of Chris Stewart Group commented“Having spent almost two years working on the acquisition and vision for these buildings, we’re really pleased to be able to share our plans with the city.

“This prominent corner of Edinburgh city centre is home to a collection of buildings that have been neglected for some time. The designs we are proposing will enable significant physical and economic regeneration of these historic properties, providing them with a sustainable long-term future.

“We’re excited to create another world class development with the potential to bring further local independents and global brands to this part of the city. The development also helps meet the council’s – and our own - net zero ambitions by making effective use of existing historic buildings.”

CSG has previously delivered the Advocate's Close development in Edinburgh and is on-site with Love Loan in Glasgow.

Excellent - restore rather than demolish, Glasgow take note.
