Georgian-inspired New Town mews completes

Work to complete two Georgian-inspired mews properties deep in Edinburgh’s New Town have been completed by Square & Crescent.

Situated at Northumberland Place Lane to the rear of Abercromby Place the three bedroom properties draw on history while delivering high specification accommodation.

Stretching to 141sq/m the homes enjoy direct access to Queen Street Gardens and incorporate an integral garage with infrastructure for future electric charging points.

Euan Marshall, co-founder and joint managing director at Square & Crescent commented: “By mixing the old with the new, we’re certain that the properties will be well received.

“To add the finishing touches to the homes and finalise the works at Northumberland Place Lane was a great feeling and it marks another important milestone for one of our Edinburgh developments.”

The properties follow conversion of two townhouses to provide eight flats.

How ares these Georgian inspired? Is it because they use sand stone. I see no Georgian detailing. All in all a totally uninspiring design.

#4 Apparently the Georgian inspiration comes from George Orwell, who predicted a dystopian future without freedom of expression, resulting in blandness and loss of individuality.

The banks of opposing windows are designed to give the feel of mass surveillance.

A gentle 'doubleplusungood' vibe is evident throughout the scheme.
