Aberdeen homes address a growing supported living need
April 11 2023
Mackie Ramsay Taylor Architects have advanced plans for supported living accommodation at the site of the former Stoneywood Primary, Aberdeen.
The 0.72-hectare site has already been cleared in anticipation of construction, with eight semi-detached wheelchair-accessible bungalows planned, each designed to Passivhaus standards.
In a massing statement, the architects wrote: "The buildings have a simple single-storey form with a rectangular plan and a pitched roof. The Passivhaus standard for low-energy dwellings drives a relatively straightforward building shape with a beneficial ratio of surface area to volume driving down heat loss. The buildings have buff coloured facing brick on the courtyard facing side and an off-white smooth render on the garden side.
"An external canopy feature provides visual interest on the entrance elevations, whilst the attractive full height windows provide good levels of daylighting to the rooms."
Including an on-site office, the accommodation is geared towards people occupying hospital beds or inappropriate premises.
