Construction begins on Bonnyrigg Passivhaus homes

Cruden Building has commenced work on 20 affordable town centre homes in Bonnyrigg on behalf of Midlothian Council.

Part of a broader commitment to deliver 182 such homes, billed as the largest Passivhaus build in Scotland, the development the AHR designed flats offer a mix of assisted living and over-55s housing within an energy-efficient structure.

In a project overview, AHR wrote: "Inside, each room is designed with plenty of space to easily adapt in the future, catering to people’s changing and varying needs with the construction and detailing to enable ceiling hoists to be retrofitted should they need to.

"The external site benefits from a brick colour throughout, helping to gracefully blend into its surrounding buildings. Importantly, the supported living development then becomes indistinguishable from regular market housing by avoiding institutional features whilst enhancing the character of the local area."

Each home at 83 High Street will be fitted with Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery units with work set to complete in July 2024.

Sadly we need a lot more of this type of housing.
Older people especially need this type of housing, it would also free up more 2/3 bedroom homes for families from the area.

Ground floor residential units are a very poor choice in this location. Zero privacy, a great deal of noise and road traffic fumes. These will be quite unpleasant places to live.

How depressing, box like homes, zero green outdoor space , right beside a busy road
