70 Drumchapel homes proposed for open ground
March 13 2023
Wheatley Homes with McTaggart Construction and Mast Architects have shared proposals for 70 homes on open ground at Abbotshall Avenue, Drumchapel.
Located south of Antonine Primary School the mix of flats, cottage flats and houses will be accessed from Drumry Road and built to Housing for Varying Needs Standard.
In a consultation statement, the applicant wrote: "The homes are finished in traditional materials respectful of the setting and the existing built environment. The external fenestration includes traditionally proportioned windows, set in brick and rendered facades. Conventional pitched roof slopes form gable features and are covered with concrete roof tiles. These low maintenance materials extend to the selection of uPVC fascias, and rainwater goods to ensure that the properties continue to enhance their local surroundings without decay."
A draft site layout makes provision for a central shared pedestrian and vehicle street skirting a public green.
All feedback should be received by 20 March.

Shouts social housing to the world -- can even be seen from space.
In the 80's / 90's -- we seemed to be trying to deliver some quality into the social sector now it is all boxes and cheap volumes.

The random zig zag path in the 'amenity space' in the centre of the development tells you all need to know about the level of thought that has been brought to bear here. This... and the random scattering of dispersed forms that shrink away from the street edges and whose design appears to be driven -pun intended- by the access road and car-parking dominated interior. A horrible design that clearly ignores all of the issues inherent in Drumchapel's streets and townscape and follows on from the paradigm of their horrible housing layouts in Linkwood.
Dismal. And the same goes for the Council's woeful and vision-less Drumchapel LDF which looks to have been put together in a week and a half.

Drumchapel deserves better than this.
