Public courtyard to revitalise a Merchant City car park

Artisan Real Estate has obtained planning consent to develop 109 apartments above four ground-floor commercial units at a prominent brownfield site in Glasgow's Merchant City.

Designs by AMA Studio and TGP landscape architects for 65-97 Ingram Street call for a courtyard block topped by landscaped roof terraces in buildings ranging in height from four to seven floors.

Artisan’s regional director David Westwater commented: “We have set out an innovative design to attract people back into the Merchant City – creating an attractive and accessible space to live, visit, work and enjoy. As well as building sustainable and energy-efficient new homes, we are also creating a variety of green, open spaces which will provide a rich, natural experience for both residents and visitors alike, with interlinked pathways and accessible seating areas.

"Incorporating the garden terraces and courtyard shows how natural landscaping can feature in even the most urban of settings, providing a genuinely different living experience to encourage people back into the city centre.”

Approval is subject to a 'Section 75' legal agreement.

Supposedly a condition of the approval is that the metal cladding and brick parts of the facades must be changed to sandstone to match the rest of the design. But glad that it has been granted planning permission.

That's a lot of green roof, where do the air source heat pumps go... are they wall mounted?

Average design - why couldn't the quality match that of the new Park Quadrant for example
