Coatbridge town centre re-urbanisation drive to deliver 49 homes
January 30 2023
A town centre gap site in Coatbridge has been earmarked for 49 apartments under new plans filed by North Lanarkshire Council to spur regeneration.
Do Architecture and Narro have been asked by the local authority to deliver homes for social rent, including the adaptive reuse of a B-listed former bank.
In a statement, the applicant wrote: "Prompted by the rebalancing of existing building typologies a new strategy to provide high quality, higher density town centre housing that meets the needs and aspirations of the local community has been implemented.
"... an improved, modern take on Coatbridge’s urban context has been established based on traditional forms and civic proportions found in the surrounding area."
Located within the Blairhill and Dunbeth Conservation area the new build blocks on Church Street will populate a brownfield site on Church Street, creating an urban-scale infill of varying heights and styles backed onto a rear shared amenity space.

One wonders what is the strategy to re-balance this?
