Contractors bid for Tradeston quay wall reinstatement

Glasgow City Council is inviting tenders for quay wall repairs at Tradeston to unblock a closed section of the Clyde Walkway on the south bank.

Part of a £50m package of works to repair and enhance the riverfront setting of the Clyde the works at Windmillcroft Quay extend 325m along the river which will benefit from expanded public space, new planting and public realm.

This follows an agreement with homeowners to make a financial contribution of £1.39m, the equivalent of £5k for each of the 278 apartments. A further £750k will be contributed by an anonymous third party. Councillor Susan Aitken, chair of the Glasgow City Region Cabinet, com

mented: “This is an important step towards the delivery of this important waterfront project, which will bring more high-quality public space to the Clydeside. Everyone living, working or visiting this area will enjoy the benefit of the work to take place here.”

The contract to deliver the reinstatement package, to designs by Atkins, could be awarded by the end of the year with work beginning early in 2024.

The costings on this are absurd -- £50mill for 325m of rebuilt quayside comes out at £150K per linear metre or nearly £4K per inch.

Someone is having a laugh with this.
A laugh at everyone else's expense.

@1 To be clear the Windmillcroft Quay works are costed at around £11m.

The £50m figure covers a larger package of works that includes the Govan-Partick Bridge and Custom House Quay.

Thanks for the heads up -- now down to less than £1K per inch.

Starting to look like good value ...

Not.
