Colony living reaches Lauder with plans for 117 homes
November 18 2022
Plans for 117 new houses and colony style flats and maisonettes have been filed by Whiteburn for the Borders town of Lauder.
A greenfield 6.8hectare site on the western periphery of the settlement has been selected for the build, adjoining recent developer housing estates.
Employing reconstituted slates and render, key buildings will stand apart through the use of recon stone facades to help aid navigation in the suburban landscape.
In a design statement the applicant wrote: "The site will also be designed to promote active travel with good pedestrian and cycle links creating site permeability and connection.
"The proposals use a diverse portfolio of house types to create rich and interesting streetscapes, forming streets, avenues and squares. The orthogonal built environment is bisected by a meandering linear park that connects each part of the development."
Following directly from Caerlee Mill in Innerleithen the development is enclosed by perimeter parkland.
Provision is made for 28 affordable flats for rent as part of the housing mix.
