Work has started on seven new affordable homes which are being built in Girvan for Ayrshire Housing.

Architects Lawrence McPherson Associates have designed the six three apartment and one four apartment homes off Torcy Drive, which is adjacent to an estate recently developed by Wimpey Homes.

Featuring a contemporary exterior and designed to replicate the massing of the adjacent villas, the houses have also been carefully designed to maximise flexibility of use and are expected to be ready for occupation in Spring 2009.  Building work is being undertaken by building contractor J D Thomson and Son.

Steve McGhee, Partner with Lawrence McPherson Associates, said: "These properties have been designed with large energy efficient south facing windows to maximise natural daylight and create a pleasant living space within the public rooms."

"The layout of the ground floor is adaptable and enables future alteration if the resident becomes wheelchair bound or infirm.  The floor plan can be adapted to meet their specific needs thus reducing the need for them to move to alternative accommodation."

Lawrence McPherson Associates have also recently completed 26 Newbuild flats at North Shore Lane, Troon for Ayrshire Housing.
