Cameron House Hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond has completed a Phoenix-like revival with the completion of a sweeping contemporary new to the 17th-century baronial pile.

Created by 3DReid Architects and Greyline Design the Lomond Wing marks the final phase of restoration at the National Park retreat, introducing an additional 68 bedrooms, a 700sq/m ballroom and a lochside terrace.

Flanking the loch with floor-to-ceiling windows the extension includes a dedicated entrance and reception area with interiors finished in limestone and wood panelling. Above, each bedroom houses wall-to-wall bi-fold glazed doors opening onto an expansive balcony with interiors overseen by Johnstons of Elgin, Timorous Beasties and Mairi Helena.

Jen Samuel, associate director at 3DReid, said: “While the main hotel building, the Auld House, was restored using traditional methods and materials, the contemporary design of the new Lomond Wing - with darker tones and a refined palette - allows it to be a defined as a modern element of construction. Although contrasting in design, the quality of the materials and careful detailing of the new wing is in keeping with the opulence of the Auld House, providing the level of grandeur expected of a luxury hotel, and it is this which greets guests upon their arrival at the resort.”

In addition to the new wing, a walled garden has been revitalised, connecting to nearby walking routes.

I was in Loch Lomond at the weekend and the photos don't do it justice to be fair. The stonework is incredible! It's so much better than the pastiche at the other side of the hotel!
