Retail retreat makes room for a £35m aparthotel

A vacant building in Glasgow city centre is to be replaced by a £35m aparthotel as part of an ongoing transition from retail.

The former Littlewoods building at 19-21 Cambridge Street has been taken on by PMI Developments and Peveril Securities who have filed a proposal of application notice to redevelop the corner block.

Haus Collective will oversee the design of the replacement, which will include a street-facing reception, lounge and cafe with self-catering apartments complete with kitchen and living areas above. A gym and a rooftop terrace also form part of the accommodation schedule.

Nigel Jones, Director, PMI Developments, said, “Despite Glasgow’s buoyant hotel market there is a lack of quality aparthotels in the city which is growing in popularity across Europe amongst both business and leisure travellers."

A public consultation showcasing early plans will take place on 15 November at 199 Sauchiehall Street between 13:00 and 18:00.

Long overdue for this part of the town, hopefully contribute to a higher standard of building to help kick start Sauchiehall street in general. Will likely tool along to the consultation to have a better look. Big positive Haus are involved, they do tend to deliver quality schemes
