Shettleston stadium switch paves the way for affordable homes
November 2 2022
Cruden Homes has opened a public consultation over plans to deliver affordable homes on the grounds of Glasgow United football club, which is in process of leasing the nearby Greenfield Football Centre.
CRGP Architects propose to arrange accommodation around two courtyard blocks at the old stadium site, framing central green spaces and presenting 'defensible' private gardens to Old Shettleston Road.
Finished in light and dark red multi brick the four-storey blocks will be served by shared surface access roads, fully integrated with landscaping and footpaths.
In a consultation statement, the applicant wrote: "Units are placed along the edge of Old Shettleston Road to address the streetscape and maximise the amount of solar gain into the courtyards within the site. The main frontages of the buildings are generally south-facing where possible, and will have generous windows that will take advantage of daylighting with main rooms on these façades. End gables will be activated with windows where overlooking is not an issue, or treated with fenestration to avoid blank gables."
The plans follow proposals to deliver 300 homes down the road on the site of a former sausage factory and the consultation will remain open until 18 November.
Under its agreement with Cruden Glasgow United plan to build a new stadium, gym, offices, a function suite and training centre at Greenfield.
