Stonehaven golf community launched at Ury Castle

A golf-led housing community has been launched at the Ury Estate near Stonehaven to deliver a mix of fully serviced self-build plots and houses around a new 18-hole golf course.

Led by Nicklaus Companies and the FM Group the project is billed as a residential-resort community spanning 1,600 acres of landscaped grounds. American professional golfer Jack Nicklaus said: I'm proud to be launching my first branded real estate development in Europe in Scotland, the home of golf, which holds a very special place in my heart.

"Ury Estate is a unique development which is set to be one of the world's most prestigious golfing destinations. We are delighted to be creating the opportunity for people to buy or build their dream home at the course.

"The Nicklaus Village at Ury Estate offers a luxury lifestyle experience, with family homes situated in a country setting affording a spectacular panorama of the Aberdeenshire countryside and coastline.

The first of three phases will overlook the B-listed Ury Castle, to be transformed into a luxury hotel by WCP Architects, with the golf course already under construction.

Let’s hope the designs of the houses are a bit more inspiring than the artist’s impression of Stewart Milne’s four bedroom efforts on steroids.

I am going to assume that this development does not provide for affordable housing? It looks great (except for the Stewart Milnes homes) but I had hoped that these large scale developments benefits the wide community, and not the fabulously wealthy few.

Finally, housing that isn't 'affordable'.

Nice to see some development for the upper classes, who are often derided for having money.

Its takes all to form a community.

#3 Assuming your comment isn't supposed to be ironic (it can be so difficult to tell), the upper classes aren't derided for having money, but for spectacular lack of taste. In which case, this will probably do rather well.
