60 affordable homes delivered in Partick

Partick Housing Association has added 60 affordable homes to its estate with the completion of Mansfield Gate, a redevelopment of the former St Peters School on Chancellor Street, Dowanhill Street and White Street.

Partly funded by Glasgow City Council the scheme delivers 31 flats for social rent alongside 21 at mid-market rent and eight supported accommodation units.

Designed by Collective Architecture the £8m project retains the school building while adding a linked new build section designed to extend the local grid iron pattern of surrounding streets.

This led to the demolition of the east wing along Dowanhill Street, replaced by a new build with similar massing to the retained block.

First approved in 2016, completion was delayed by the collapse of Central Building Contractors.

Why such a dreich courtyard? Zero greenery. I thought that planning required that some form of amenity be provided?
Can anyone from Collective explain?

It's kind of guilty pleasure to see all these shiny BMWs, Mercs and Audis in front of 'affordable' housing. No questions asked, right?

#1 completely agree - this is bleak, and shouldn't be acceptable. Even if this is a deck, there is plenty that can be done to introduce greening. Did nobody tell them there's a climate emergency....?

Possibly the grimmest amenity deck I've ever seen. Not one bit of landscaping anywhere to be seen

Grim. Greenery? Shrubs? Kids safe play area (not metal junk just trees and shrubs to explore) not taken over with cars?

'affordable' I recall being able to buy my first affordable Mercedes and flat
Well part affordable Mercedes
Well affordable Merc badge from dodgy pub and illegal squat.
It's a grim back courtyard - in fact I've seen cheerier execution squares

Playing devil's advocate here but the cars are most likely the clients or design team, parked there during the site walk round to explain why the courtyard is so devoid of life.
