Historic Crail home to be adapted for modern life

A C-listed Victorian dwelling in Crail is the subject of significant internal and external alterations involving the replacement of an existing two-storey extension with a modern dual-pitched alternative.

Studio East Chartered Architects are leading the charge on behalf of the owners to provide an expanded kitchen and pantry at ground floor level with a master bedroom, establishing a level garden in the process.

The traditional clay pantile roof property will be augmented by additions of timber, render and zinc with a void space to the north permitting natural light into the kitchen.

In a statement, the architect wrote: "By utilising materials and a domestic scale, the new proposal will sit within the existing built environment and respect the character of the local area. This will be a modern, efficient development which will enhance the visual amenity of the area.

"The proposals aim to provide a development which is well seated within its context and will present the opportunity of a flexible space for the applicant, both now and in the future."

Separately a new garage is proposed to the north-west of the garden, accessible from a car park at Back Dykes via a newly formed opening in a ruinous wall.
