Drastic surgery planned for a substantial Edinburgh home
July 19 2022
Plans have been brought forward for an ambitious extension and renovation of a substantial Edinburgh home to provide expanded living space, a triple garage and a garden studio.
Pre-application discussions with the City of Edinburgh Council have previously taken place to demolish the current house at Easter Belmont Road and replace it with a new dwelling but the current thinking prioritises a selective programme of extension and renovation.
Oberlanders Architects propose to remove an existing garage to accommodate an expanded suite of outbuildings, set behind a new boundary wall and entrance gate. The work would more than double the size of the current home with a landscaped garden terrace, BBQ pit and summer house sitting on top of a stone-clad parking garage.
The major remodelling would also drastically alter the current home with a new glazed box slightly raising the current roof line. As part of this work, the external appearance of the property will be updated with white render, horizontal timber cladding and buff masonry to tie the composition together.
Visualisations prepared by Charles Roberts Studios.

I did wonder what disgraced former Royal Bank of Scotland CEO (Sir) Fred Goodwin was doing with his massive pension pot these days.
Or is it just a rumour?
I tried to have a look at the existing location on Streetview, but it's off limits - it almost looks like a gated community?
Anyway, very good thing to see after a mini-heatwave that's given us the hottest day on record. More mansions! More cars!
