Hampton by Hilton hotel heads updated Cameron Toll master plan

A new hotel and master plan has been prepared for Edinburgh's Cameron Toll shopping centre by 3DReid on behalf of Lady Road Investment SARL.

The diversification strategy calls for the creation of a cinema, hotel and homes to augment the current retail offer, forming a local neighbourhood centre in the process.

The hotel draws inspiration from the Victorian terraces of the neighbouring Craigmillar Park conservation area, with facades of red and buff brick separated by dark grey metal cladding to provide depth and relief to the masonry. Alternating mansards and pitched roofs add to skyline interest with a public realm strategy led by HarrisonStevens enhancing connectivity with Inch Park.

Outlining their approach to the hotel element the architects wrote: "The proposed hotel is located on the edge of the site, and will provide active frontage to Liberton Road, improving public realm at the busy road junction, whilst also providing an east-west connection into the neighbourhood centre. The design takes inspiration from the surrounding context, breaking the facade vertically into five bays of tenemental proportions, with varied roofscape of pitched roofs and dormers, and the masonry tones of the local red and blonde sandstone."

Subject to a successful application work could progress on-site early next year for completion by the end of 2024.

Never mind the grandiose description of the proposed hotel’s design, does anyone think planning will permit a hotel to be constructed right beside an operational petrol station?

That can't be a real proposal can it?

Looks like a thin cardboard cut out put together by eating print-outs of buildings and then puking them up on a page.

Seriously- what a massive missed opportunity.
