<p>The New Year is an opportunity to take stock of the projects and practices which have done most to point us in exciting new directions but this has been lent extra impetus in 2021 by the push and pull of covid-19 and cop26. At a time when architects have been thrust to the forefront of efforts to reduce carbon emissions we thank and rank those practices which show that as the sun sets on old ways of working it rises on new opportunities.</p>
