On site The two most significant construction projects in the city at present, the Informatics building and the Quartermile project will transform the south edge of the Old Town
The 19 acre Quartermile is the most impressive construction site in Edinburgh at present. Due for completion in 2012 by which point it will house 2000 residents and 3000 workers. The former hospital site has been master-planned by Foster Associates to provide a mix of residential (including affordable housing), commercial and retail space set within and green landscape designed by EDAW. The scheme involves the conversion of the best of the original hospital buildings to apartments, and the insertion of finger-shaped new apartments and offices. Richard Murphy and CDA are working alongside Foster.
The University of Edinburgh Informatics building fills one of the most obtrusive gap sites in the city, which had been the Crichton Street car park. The informatics building is a key element in the University's master plan produced by RMJM in 2004. The master plan, which proposes demolishing the Potterrow student centre by Morris and Steedman and realigning the road, has been agreed by the City Council.
A new public route and footbridge to link Stevenson Road to the Water of Leith walkway, will open up new pedestrian and cycle routes across the city.
Anothe project that BDP is involved with is a new water treatment plant at Glencorse
BDP are also involved in the new civic centre in Livingston
BDP, who opened a new office in Edinburgh recently, is involved in a wide range of projects in the city region, one being reworking Tanfield House a former Life HQ to form 17 smaller office units
