Scots Abroad: 5 Chapters in White House History

Edinburgh World Heritage are delighted to welcome Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association, for an exclusive talk on “Five Chapters in White House History", a look at one of the United States' most famous buildings, and the role that Scots played in its development. Beginning in 1792 where George Washington, an Irish designer, and Scottish stonemasons began to build what we call the White House today, this talk reviews 232 years of White House history focusing on four key dates etched into the Entrance Hall’s floor – and one more. Stewart McLaurin serves as president of the White House Historical Association and will fly in especially for this event.

The Association was founded in 1961 by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to share and preserve the rich history of the White House. In his ten years as president, Stewart has expanded the Association’s cultural and educational programming through award-winning books, popular video series, and virtual and in-person events to ensure White House history is preserved for future generations.

This is a unique opportunity to hear Stewart's insights and celebrate the deep connections between Scotland and the United States and we would be delighted if you would join us for what promises to be an inspiring and thought-provoking evening.
