isle of Rum Ferry waiting room
The building provides much needed shelter for people waiting for the Isle of Rum ferry. It is situated on the recent pier in Loch Scresort, near the village of Kinloch. The brief demanded that the building must assimilate with the heathery background and avoid prominence when viewed from the sea. Materials include reclaimed sandstone from Kinloch Castle gardens, selectively used larch cladding and green coloured Marley Eternit Profile 6 roofing. The plan more or less drew it's self as a response to vistas to the sea and the castle plus the need for a sheltered external area. Study of nearby ruined Blackhouses helped provide inspiration.
