Bungalow Wrap
City Architecture Office has reworked a ubiquitous type of Edinburgh bungalow. It is now transformed to provide accommodation to suit modern living patterns and provide level access. This is achieved by placing the lounge, dining, kitchen, garage and ancillary rooms into an extension that wraps around two sides of the existing house. The space within the original shell is instead used for sleeping and sanitary accommodation.
The ‘L’ wrap building is a deliberately familiar form; a pitched roof structure that is a super-insulated bespoke timber frame, clad with cedar, slate and brick. It contains a sequence of attractive, clean lined, light-filled volumes that re-orientate the aspect to address the private side of the house, maximise daylight and generate a strong connection to the garden.
