InSpace
Located within the University of Edinburgh’s Informatics Forum, a new build, city centre university campus development, InSpace is a progressive exhibition facility which functions as a laboratory, factory, forum, and social destination space to explore the cultural significance of informatics at the intersection of art and design. The primary uses of the space are intended to accommodate exhibition of new media artworks, demonstration space for interactive science education and office/workshop for artists in residence.
This 300sq m public engagement gallery has street-facing windows providing a prominent ‘shop window’ to the Forum, making activities inside available to passers-by via interactive technology. InSpace hosts creative explorations of the interface between science, humanities, medicine and art, exhibited alongside a rolling programme of artworks developed through the artist in residence programme and student involvement. InSpace hosts exhibitions, education events, and ‘hands on science’ activities. InSpace has evolved as a prominent venue in the Edinburgh arts and science calendar.
Through InSpace the University aims to increase public awareness and understanding of the role of computation in modern biology, security, learning and other areas of life and provide a focal point for visitors, academics and the general public to learn more about research in Informatics and the many practical uses of this research. They will also communicate concepts developed from research and interactions between Informatics and other disciplines from the arts to the life sciences.
