New House
This House was Designed and built for Jean Elvidge, a unique lady, private yet outgoing with a passion for sailing and the sea and this is reflected in the Design of her home. Imagine yourself walking down to a private beach somewhere on your own island and you’ll be in Jeans House. The gateway in the stone defensive wall leads you through this living space to the glass wall frontage dividing the inside and outside bounded with rocks to sitting areas on the foreshore looking out to sea and the sailing boats. The wood and curves throughout the House is a representation of boats and the “Crows Nest” allows Jean to look out over the silvery Tay and keep a watchful eye over the sea and boating activity of which she is so much a part of. The long low House is Designed to take maximum advantage of the sea front as well as respecting her neighbours views on the hill behind and the grass roof and stone wall gives the impression the House is part of the shore apart from the timber and glass roof structure which sits up like a beach hut. The existing boundary hedge along the frontage of the House is of height sufficient to block out the railway line without affecting the view of the sea and sailing whilst at the same time protecting the privacy of the House and the outside sitting spaces under the protection of the overhanging grass roof. Internally the timber caulked floors lead you into living spaces opening one into another all with views of the sea and its activities which are very much part of Jeans living environment and lifestyle all shared with her friends on Bridge nights. Jeans choice of contemporary furniture reflects the clean lines and open spaces of the House creating this quite unique and private home for Jean, her ships cat and faithful Labrador.
