Colliston Extension
The existing house is a large 1.5 story property with a ground floor conservatory to the south west. The existing conservatory was in poor condition and our brief was to replace it with a modern extension to create a larger open plan space.
The extension creates an open planned kitchen, dining, and family area by opening up the existing house wall. The new large windows offer a much better family space as well as a direct connection from the space to the garden via folding sliding doors, to allow the room to be opened up to the patio/garden.
Externally the roof pitch was kept low to avoid an existing bedroom window. Large areas of rooflights will allow natural light to shine not only over the dining/living area but deep into the existing space. The proposed materials were chosen to allow the extension to be visually distinct from the main house, whilst complimenting the existing materials palette.
New stonework is in keeping with the existing stonework features and basecourse whilst the new metal roof is introduced as a modern solution to accommodate the low pitch.
