Glenmorangie Distillery

Today, Glenmorangie single malt Scotch whisky opens the doors to its ground-breaking innovation distillery – a place which promises to bring a kaleidoscope of delicious new flavours to Scotch whisky. With a lighthouse-style design which spotlights Glenmorangie’s landmark approach, the Lighthouse distillery is conceived as a playground for whisky makers. Its towering glass stillhouse and purpose-built sensory laboratory give them the creative space to let their imaginations run wild, at the heart of the Highland Distillery.

Glenmorangie has been pushing the boundaries of single malt for decades. Using barley, water, yeast, wood and time, its whisky creators – led by Director of Whisky Creation Dr Bill Lumsden – are endlessly experimental in their quest to dream up delicious whiskies for more people to enjoy. Dr Bill’s “What if...?” approach has inspired the Lighthouse innovation distillery, the first of its kind. Spurred on by his many whisky world firsts and wondrous limited editions, Glenmorangie and architects Barthélémy Griño have reflected Dr Bill’s endless dialogue between creativity and whisky tradition in the Lighthouse.

Completed after a two-year build, halted at times due to the global pandemic, the distillery will allow Dr Bill and his team to redefine every aspect of their craft, and bring their most extraordinary ideas to life. Rather like an actual lighthouse, the 20m-high glass stillhouse stands out on the Scottish coastline and can be seen for miles around. It is a dramatic contrast to the classic stone buildings of the main Distillery, founded in 1843.
