Edinburgh Marina retirement flats to kickstart Granton regeneration
March 23 2017
Wilson + Gunn Architects have come forward with proposals to build a new retirement community at Edinburgh Marina, comprising 104 individual flats alongside a gym and spa and communal lounge, dining room, cinema and hobby room.Incorporating underground and on-street parking the scheme will include ground floor resident’s facilities overlooking the landscaped Hesperus Square, occupying a full urban block bounded by Heron Place/lane and Hesperus Crossway.
Wilson + Gunn wrote: “The retirement complex provides spacious and desirable accommodation for retirees looking for an opportunity to downsize from their previous accommodation.
“The experience of the retirement community is enhanced by the many communal services offered including fitness and leisure facilities, a shared dining bistro, entertainment amenities, landscaped gardens and park area and domestic facilities including a communal laundry and secure storerooms, a fitness centre and a private cinema.”
Located at the heart of Granton Harbour the project will be arranged around a landscaped courtyard with elevations finished in a mixture of buff brick and render.

I suppose in terms of inter-generational equality its only fair that old people also be housed in mean, cheap and imposing looking residential barracks. This shouldn't just be something enjoyed by students and first-time buyers.
