GSA nets £500k for development of Garnethill campus
Glasgow School of Art is pushing ahead with development of its Garnethill campus after securing a £500k donation toward conversion of the former Stow College and restoration of the Mackintosh building.

The Garfield Weston |Foundation chipped in the six-figure sum in response to the Mackintosh Campus Appeal as David Mundell, secretary of state for Scotland, hosts a fundraising event at Dover House, London.

GSA director professor Tom Inns, said: “It is an important opportunity for us to share our ambitious plans for the campus redevelopment, including bringing together all pathways of the School of Fine Art for the first time in many years in a refurbished Stow Building, and to give an update on the restoration of the Mackintosh Building.”

BDP are leading conversion work at Stow College, which will see the 1930s-building repurposed as the GSA’s School of Fine Art.

would be great to see the utilization of spaces adjacent to the college- an accentuation of the urban fabric on West Graham street and an opening up of Scott St onto Shamrock Street at the rear of the building- could we not see productive use of the car park? Does there need to be a car park when there are such an extensive transport network in proximity?

It's interesting to see the artists impression of this original scheme for the building, including an eastern wing (creating an internal quadrangle?) which was never fully realised. It would be cool if the proposals for the building eventually completed it to the original plan and also removed the crap looking corrugated steel post-war roof extension.
