National Performance Centre for Sport gets underway

Oriam (Gaelic for gold) will include a mixture of grass and synthetic indoor and outdoor pitches as well as a conditioning suite, medical centre as well as a hydrotherapy pool and fitness studios.
Minister for sport Jamie Hepburn commented: “I am delighted to be part of the ground breaking ceremony at Scotland’s new Sports Performance Centre. This multi-sport facility will equip Scotland’s top athletes with the necessary resources to compete on an international level, as well as inspire generations to come.
“This is another excellent example of the legacy of the Commonwealth Games. There is already a significant Games legacy embedded in Scotland, and initiatives such as this will mean our sports men and women of today and tomorrow will continue to benefit from the Games.”
The Bowmer & Kirkland built centre which will become operational in summer 2016.
Controversially, there is no provision for tennis in the existing plans
Five outdoor natural football and two rugby pitches will be offered, as well as a twelve court sports hall; a full size indoor 3G pitch; a cafe and a fitness suite
Oriam will be built on parkland within Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh campus
The campus will also serve as a base for various sporting bodies

#1 Why not? Surely you would want the best footballing nation in the UK to train on your pitch?

Well I'm sure it would be leased out in the short term to whoever requires it under a proper sustainable business model - the 6th richest country in the world can surely afford it!!

Interesting! Is there adequate parking for visitors and users of this facility - the last time I was on the University campus they seemed to be advancing various new developments while reducing the existing car parking provision? Is the hotel facility in support of this sports centre being advanced in parallel or is it to follow at some point in the future?
The entire sports development seems somewhat out of scale with the existing University buildings and could well become the dominant feature on the campus as it will be immediately visible on arrival at the campus.

From the earlier blurb "Construction was expected to start in the spring of 2014 for completion by 2016" - so why the year delay? Why has the roofing material and appearance changed from the original visuals as the changes simply make a huge roof even uglier and more out of character with the wooded nature of the University campus?
