Collective Architecture has been appointed to extend Glasgow’s Briggait Centre with a new build entrance overlooking the River Clyde on undeveloped land to the south of the existing Wasp’s Studios. The £3.75m project will provide 12,000sq/ft of dedicated rehearsal and performance space for physical performance artists as well as a social enterprise café.
Annexes dating from 1889 and 1904 will also be refurbished under the plans which will see an existing gap site, currently used for car parking and deliveries, transformed into a new entrance space.
Jude Barber, project director at Collective Architecture, said: “To have the opportunity to develop a major cultural centre within such a splendid historical setting overlooking the River Clyde is incredibly special.
“Our team has only just commenced work on the project, but we are really looking forward to immersing ourselves in the process with the consultant team at Arup.”
The project team also includes Atelier Ten and New Acoustics.
