Laing O’Rourke and Ryder appointed to build £200m Dumfries Royal Infirmary
A consortium comprising Laing O’Rourke, Ryder Architecture and Serco has seen off competition from Balfour Beatty to be appointed to deliver the £200m Dumfries Royal infirmary, with construction expected to start by spring 2015.

High Wood Health was named as the preferred bidder for the contract to deliver the 350 bed facility, for which outline plans were first drawn up by Keppie Design.

Project director Dennis O’Keeffe said: “Following an intense period of competitive dialogue and evaluation, we are pleased to announce High Wood Health as our preferred bidder.  Their proposed solution is one that brings to bear a consortium of designers and contractors with considerable expertise and resources to fulfil our expectations.”

Jeff Ace, chief executive for NHS Dumfries and Galloway added: “This is the major milestone that we have been working towards for months now, along with two bidders who have produced the final designs for the kind of facility that we need so that our staff can deliver the best care possible for our patients.”

The new hospital will open its doors to patients in 2017/18.

Great to see the Scottish Government using the private sector to finance NHS projects. They call it NPD but its just PFI by another name.

Well I'm not impressed with the cardboard-esque material...although once the inevitable value engineering exercise is over it maybe closer to the finished look than envisaged. Another prime example where design & flair gets left on the cutting room floor once the 'money men' start interfering.

The Money Men (ie the people who are paying for the development ?) its a crime that they should have a say !.

Perhaps if you feel so strongly about it then you personally should donate your own money into the project ?
