Twin Gorbals tower blocks felled in regeneration drive
Two tower blocks at Sandiefield Road, Glasgow, have been demolished as part of a wider regeneration of the Gorbals.

Built in 1971 the twin 24 storey properties rose to 69m in height and contained 400 flats between them, but will make way for a new health centre and social housing following debris disposal.

Designed by Page\Park and Ian White Associates this will tie in with the neighbouring Crown Street regeneration plan.

Raymond Shannon, chairman of the New Gorbals Housing Association, said: "Every single household in the flats were given the opportunity to be rehoused in a new or modernised home in the Gorbals and I'm pleased to say that over 70% decided to take up that offer.

"The explosive demolition of these blocks will transform Crown Street and at last clear the way for the completion of the £100m regeneration of Hutchesontown which we started in 1990."
