Commonwealth Games architects waiting on three months salary
Salary difficulties are continuing to plague RMJM after sources indicated to Urban Realm that the firm is three months behind in its obligations - just two months after a restructuring effort, which was hailed at the time for stabilising the firm’s cash flow.

RIBA president Angela Brady has already implied that the company could be expelled from the architect’s body by personally overseeing an investigation to ensure that the practice is '...working within the law'.

RMJM Architecture was sold back in April to the Morrison family backed Duthus Investments, a move which halved RMJMs debt burden to £12m.

The Commonwealth Games athletes’ village is currently RMJM’s only live project in the UK (although the firm acted as masterplanner at Laurieston and work is expected to commence this year on a new engineering building at the University of Sheffield.)

Calum Murray, spokesperson for the City Legacy Consortium said: "City Legacy has fully honoured all of our financial obligations for our contract with RMJM and continues to do so."

Urban Realm has contacted RMJM for a response.

It is pretty shameful but so are those people who are sitting like hungry vultures trying to feed off the carcass. Also doesn't help the good folk holding on in there trying to do the best job that they can.

'Lee Ivett' - what a very perverse comment - who do you imagine are these 'vultures' and where do you get the idea anyone is trying to feed off the 'carcass'?

There is no question that the few left working on this project are trying to do the best job they can - for the sake of the project one assumes and not for their employer? - but surely the kind of coverage this article is giving you is in your interest? The more this truly despicable employer called RMJM is exposed for what they are the better it will be in the long run for everyone concerned including those trying to complete an important project for Glasgow despite not being paid. Do you not question where the money that Urban-Union are paying is actually going if RMJM are not using to pay the project team?

How on earth 'Sir' Fraser Morrison, the guy ultimately pulling RMJM's strings allowed to continue to do so is beyond me. And how is he allowed to retain his knighthood whilst his personal fortune grows and his staff remain unpaid?

This is not journalism, this is grapevine gossip. Sort it out Urban Realm.

You really have to question the validity of the article when someone who could not be in a closer position to the issue describes the article as 'gossip'.

I've always sensed that Urban Realm are focused on the patronage of 'boutique' architects and are more than happy to sling mud at larger, commercial offices.

Lynda- Are you saying that RMJM's staff are being paid in full and on time? I know several staff who would contest this.
Walt - Given the leaked articles of the last couple of weeks, I'm not sure anyone at RMJM could preach about 'mudslinging'.
This company's an embarrassment to Scotland.

Cat Flap (you obviously know me, shame you don't feel able to tell me who you are) - if you read my comment that is not what I said. Nobody on the team was approached by any journalists before this article was published, and there are several factual errors. Like I said, that's not what I would call journalism. It takes a pretty big imaginative leap to translate that into "We're all being paid in full and on time". Yes we are owed overdue salary, that's common knowledge. Believe me, I am in no way condoning our situation. I'm just sick and tired of people gossiping about it.

Lynda - I don't know you, but your e-mail made it blatantly obvious who you worked for. I can't imagine anyone else trying to discredit an article berating the way RMJM treat their staff. Is Walt (#7) on the payroll too by any chance?
I sympathise with the predicament that the staff at RMJM face (probably yourself too) however if you and the RMJM board want people to stop gossiping about it, leaking e-mails to the press discrediting your staff isn't the best place to start.
If you want to know my identity, get in touch anytime at jonnyfrench@yahoo.co.uk.
We could probably sort a job out for you when RMJMs finally laid to rest.
