May 1 2013
NHS Lothian has submitted a proposal of application notice for the redevelopment of its Royal Edinburgh Hospital campus, clearing the way for a formal planning application later in the year.Undertaken in partnership with Hub South East Scotland the masterplan calls for the construction of an adult acute mental health inpatient service to provide psychiatric care, brain injury services, mental health rehabilitation and treatment of older people’s mental health.
Hub South East chief executive Paul McGirk said: “We are extremely proud that, by working in partnership with NHS Lothian and its partners across the south east, we will be able to deliver these much needed new and improved patient care facilities. The NHS as well as local people and businesses will directly benefit from this substantial investment happening in their area.”
Phase one is projected to complete in 2017 with full completion not anticipated prior to 2027 and is being delivered in tandem with plans to relocate the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.
