Skye's Talisker distillery visitor centre opens its doors
April 11 2013
A £1m visitor centre at Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye has opened its doors to the public as part of a major revamp and expansion ahead of the coming tourist season.Funded by Diageo and designed by Contagious the work has seen creation of a new welcome area and enhanced viewing gallery together with the creation of new tasting rooms.
Distillery manager Mark Lochhead said: “The new visitor centre gives us a wonderful stage to tell the story of Talisker with its rich history and heritage and also to give our visitors a really high quality experience which matches the unique whisky we make here.”
Currently the only distillery on the island Talisker is one of Skye’s top attractions, drawing 60,000 visitors last year.
A spate of recent distillery openings and expansions signify a growing appetite for the drink with new distilleries planned at Tarbert, Kingsbarns, Speyside and Lochaber.
