Edinburgh University’s plans to renovate the 1960s William Robertson Building, George Square, have advanced with the award of a £12m construction contract to Balfour Beatty.

The grade B listed building lies close to the heart of the city and will be expanded with an additional storey and a project room above the existing lecture theatre.

Designed by Page\Park architects the building will benefit from new insulation throughout and hard both hard and soft landscaping.

The project is scheduled to complete in Spring 2014.
