May 25 2012
Plans to erect a giant steel demarker of the Scottish/English border are to be put on public exhibition in Gretna ahead of a planning application later this year. The £4.2m sculpture his a collaboration between artist Cecil Balmond and landscape designer Charles Jencks following an international competition staged last year and is promised to provide an “iconic welcome and an ever changing contemporary symbol of a confident, creative Scotland.”
If approved it would be erected ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in a field adjacent to the A74 and River Sark - putting it in sight of 10m motorists every year.
The four day exhibition will take place on June 1 - 4 at the Richard Greenhowe Centre in Gretna.
